NZ School of Radio Tauranga
Big River FM formed a Partnership/Internship programme with the New Zealand School of Radio Tauranga in 2010.
Big River's part is simple: we offer the students a learning platform free of the departmental structure associated with commercial radio, enabling students more freedom to express, refine, and build confidence.
Whilst here, students interact with the community both on and off air. They visit local schools, perform outside broadcasts, promotions and attend local events. They are mentored and tutored by a number of industry professionals.
Big River FM is very grateful to Work and Income NZ who support both students and the internship and Media Works Whangarei, who allow work experience for students.
All students from day one monitor job vacancies throughout the industry with the hope of securing full time jobs.
Cool FM is Big River's affiliate station here in Dargaville.
The association came about when both parties saw the potential in combining resources in a way that enabled us both to continue functioning independently of each other, yet adding value to each other's product and its delivery.
This partnership continues to grow and is unique. It is strengthened by understanding and supporting each other's strengths and weaknesses within the local market.
Cool FM is managed by Jason Hutchinson who has a lot of radio experience and a voice to match.
